Program:  Join Generations United for Intergenerational Solutions to Combatting Ageism Across the Lifespan to celebrate the kickoff of Global Intergenerational Week (April 24-30). Ageism is detrimental to our health and well-being and costs billions. Intergenerational initiatives that promote engagement and intentionally focus on developing authentic relationships between people of different ages offer great promise for addressing ageism. People of all ages report feelings of happiness, belonging, purpose, and well-being after participating in intergenerational activities. 

During this 1-hour webinar, we will learn more about the World Health Organization’s Global Campaign to Combat Ageism and their guide Connecting Generations: Planning and Implementing Interventions for Intergenerational Contact.  We will hear from a panel of experts sharing how intergenerational initiatives are working to combat ageism.

Intergenerational Solutions to Combatting Ageism Across the Lifespan

Program:  This international seminar will highlight two key issues of ageing and social policy: Combating ageism and promoting active ageing.
Clemens Tesch-Roemer and Liat Ayalon will present cultural and societal patterns of age-related discrimination and their impact on social and public policies, and they propose research to expand the evidence base.
Oxana Sinyavskaya will then follow with an analysis of the active ageing concept that has shaped social policies around ageing over the past decades. Synthesizing scientific and political perspectives, she will reveal the needs for further research and policy development.
